Katie Boulter's promising start was short-lived as she fell to a 3-6 6-2 6-2 loss against Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the Mubadala DC Open. Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie ended his six-match losing streak on the ATP Tour with a 6-4 6-1 win over Aleksandar Kovacevic in the Mifel Tennis Open. Boulter initially dominated, winning the first set, but Krueger turned the tables, breaking Boulter twice in the second set to level the match. The final set saw Krueger assert her dominance, breaking Boulter three times to secure the victory.
Krueger will next face Naomi Osaka. Norrie's victory was not without its challenges, as he faced break points and lost his serve early on, but he rebounded strongly, particularly in the second set, where he took a 4-1 lead and sealed the win.
Norrie will face either Aidan Mayo or Jamie Duckworth in the next round.
