This season I am sharing my experiences as the European Solheim Cup captain, chronicling the journey from the early preparations all the way to the competition itself, which will be staged in the Netherlands for the first time from September 7 to 13. The golf calendar is already in motion, and we have just concluded the first major of the year, the Chevron Championship in Texas.
European players made a strong impression there, with many of our ladies posting impressive scores and demonstrating the form that could prove decisive as the Solheim Cup approaches. Early-season shifts in the Rolex Rankings have already begun to reshape the landscape. A variety of competitors have shown solid play, and with four more majors looming on the horizon—each offering even more ranking points—the picture of our potential team is still evolving. It will be fascinating to watch how the selections solidify as the season progresses.

Last week at the Chevron Championship we welcomed the PING Europe apparel team for what may be the first trial fitting of the new uniforms for both players and caddies. This marks a continuation of a three‑year partnership with PING that began in previous Solheim Cups. Their familiarity with our needs makes the fitting process seamless, and they have been eager to receive our feedback on cut, comfort, and style so that the final garments reflect the preferences of the team. While the complete outfits will remain a surprise until the squad lands in the Netherlands, I was given an exclusive preview of the accessories, fabrics, and colour palettes we have selected.
We have chosen a blend of performance‑focused materials and classic hues that will stand out on the course and during the ceremonial events. In addition to the core kit, there are a few playful touches—such as custom‑embroidered pins and optional weather‑ready layers—that we are still fine‑tuning. We are also finalising the attire for the Gala Dinner, which will take place on Wednesday of Solheim Cup week, as well as the ensemble for the Opening Ceremony.
Both events call for a more formal look that still honours the team’s identity and the host nation’s aesthetic. To achieve this, we have partnered with a Dutch design firm that specializes in high‑end event wear. I am particularly excited to see how the players react to the final pieces, especially since I can already assure my vice‑captains, Mel and Carro, that we are steering clear of the traditional dress uniform that some teams have used in the past.
The behind‑the‑scenes work continues unabated. I am holding regular Zoom meetings with players, caddies, and support staff to discuss everything from travel logistics to personal preferences for the new kit. The virtual meetings have become a staple of my routine, allowing us to keep the conversation flowing despite the busy travel schedules that accompany professional golf.
Every conversation I have these days inevitably circles back to the Solheim Cup. It is rare to speak with a colleague, a sponsor, or a fan without the event being mentioned at least once. The excitement is palpable, and the collective energy is driving us all to prepare with extra diligence.
Balancing my own tournament commitments with the responsibilities of captain has been a demanding juggling act. Fortunately, I have received tremendous support from the Ladies European Tour, the LPGA, and my management team, all of whom have helped me navigate the dual role of competitor and leader. Their assistance has been crucial in ensuring that I can give both my personal game and my captaincy the attention they deserve. Being on this journey alongside the players is precisely why I agreed to take on the captaincy at this stage of my career.
When I am paired with European teammates during practice rounds, I get a front‑row seat to their preparation, their mindset, and the camaraderie that develops under pressure. It is an invaluable perspective that enriches my own understanding of the game and deepens my connection to the squad.
