Hull FC's hopes of climbing into the top half of the Betfred Super League table were dashed after a dispiriting 12-4 loss to Toulouse. Following their win against Castleford Tigers in his inaugural match as caretaker boss for the second time, interim head coach Andy Last had high expectations.
However, his team fell to a Toulouse side that had previously endured seven consecutive league defeats before visiting the MKM Stadium. The visiting team made a strong start, scoring two tries within the first 10 minutes, courtesy of Olly Ashall-Bott and Joe Cator, with Jake Shorrocks successfully converting both. Tom Briscoe scored for Hull with nine minutes left in the first half, but they were unable to add to their tally after Zak Hardaker missed the conversion.
A more resolute Hull side emerged in the second half, forcing Toulouse to defend tenaciously against a barrage of attacks, but they were unable to break through. Ashall-Bott ensured Toulouse's lead remained intact with a remarkable clearance under the posts 15 minutes from time.
