The incident occurred on Sunday during the Loyers special stage of the Rallye de Wallonie, where Jos Verstappen lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree, prompting his retirement from the event. News of the accident was confirmed by the Rallye de Wallonie through their social media channels. At 54 years old, Jos Verstappen, the current national rally champion, had been in third place before the accident, which was described as a violent departure from the road.
Fortunately, both Jos Verstappen and his co-driver, Jasper Vermeulen, were unharmed in the crash, although the vehicle suffered significant damage, as evident from the images released. Notably, Jos Verstappen was competing without his regular co-driver, Renaud Jamoul, who was unable to participate due to an ankle surgery.
