Scottie Scheffler explained that he would be willing to weigh in on the selection of upcoming Team USA Ryder Cup captains if the PGA of America approached him for advice. The current captain, Jim Furyk, was confirmed on Friday as the leader for the 2027 competition at Adare Manor. Furyk, who captured the U.S. Open title in 2003, previously captained the American side in 2018, a year when Europe prevailed in Paris.

Ahead of the Cadillac Championship in Miami, Scheffler was asked if the PGA of America had consulted him about potential captain candidates. "No, I have no input at all," Scheffler replied.

"I only learned about it when the announcement was made." When pressed about his willingness to contribute, he added, "If they want my opinion, I’m happy to give it. But the Ryder Cup is run by the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour, and it isn’t a players‑only decision.

The United States maintains a Ryder Cup selection committee composed of three PGA of America executives and three PGA Tour players. Scheffler noted that Jordan Spieth is one of the player representatives and said he would likely reach out to Spieth for insight on the committee’s workings.

Furyk’s Ryder Cup résumé stretches back to his debut in 1997, and he has been involved in every edition of the event for three decades, either as a competitor or in a leadership role. As a player, he appeared in nine straight Cups from 1997 through 2014, winning only two of those teams. Scheffler, who first represented the United States at the Ryder Cup on the Whistling Straits course in 2021, played under Furyk’s captaincy at the 2024 Presidents Cup and praised the veteran’s leadership style.

"Jim and his wife Tabitha are wonderful people," Scheffler said. "Jim is an excellent leader—he runs things with a high level of organization.

He’s been involved in countless team events, whether as a player or a captain, and that depth of experience is invaluable." He fell just one stroke short of Rory McIlroy at Augusta and then lost a playoff to Matt Fitzpatrick at Harbour Town. After a sub‑20 finish at the Players Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the four‑time major champion appears to have found his rhythm again and is now the favorite to capture the Cadillac Championship, especially with Fitzpatrick and McIlroy sitting out.
