Welcome to the second installment of my Captain's Corner! This season I am taking you along on my journey as the captain of Team Europe for the Solheim Cup, a competition that will be staged in the Netherlands for the very first time from September 7th to 13th. The season has already kicked off, and we have just wrapped up the first major tournament of the year, the Chevron Championship in Texas, where many of our European ladies delivered impressive performances. Early‑season shifts in the Rolex Rankings have already begun to reshape the landscape, with a wide variety of players hitting strong form.
As we move forward, the excitement builds because four more majors are fast approaching, each offering even more points toward Solheim Cup qualification. Keeping an eye on how the team evolves over the coming weeks will be fascinating.
For the latest updates, video highlights, in‑depth analysis and more, follow Sky Sports on WhatsApp. To enjoy the video content without any hiccups, we recommend using the Chrome browser, which provides the most accessible player experience. Last week, the PING Europe apparel team joined us at the Chevron Championship for the first possible fitting of uniforms for both players and caddies.
This marks the beginning of a collaborative process that has been refined over the past three Solheim Cups. Working closely with PING Europe makes the fitting process smooth and efficient, and their willingness to listen to our feedback allows us to fine‑tune the cuts, fabrics and overall style to suit the team’s preferences.
While the final outfits will remain a surprise until the squads arrive in the Netherlands, I was given an exclusive preview of the accessories we have selected, the materials we have chosen, and the colour palette that will define our look. In addition to the standard uniform pieces, we have been brainstorming a few fun, unexpected touches that will add personality and flair to the team’s appearance. We are also finalising the attire for the gala dinner that will be held on Wednesday of Solheim Cup week, as well as the clothing we will wear for the opening ceremony. Both events will showcase a more formal side of the competition, and we have partnered with a Dutch design firm to create something that reflects the host nation’s heritage while still feeling distinctly European.
A few quick reminders for fans: the Solheim Cup 2026 schedule, details about my appointment as Europe’s captain, a recap of how the United States secured victory in the 2024 edition, and information on how to stream the event without a long‑term contract are all available on the Sky Sports platform. One of the highlights of the apparel project is that we have decided not to introduce a dress for the female players this year—a relief for many, including my vice‑captains, Mel and Carro. This decision came after careful consideration of comfort, practicality and the overall aesthetic we want to achieve.
Behind the scenes, the work continues with ongoing conversations with players, caddies and the broader support staff. Zoom meetings have become a staple of my daily routine, allowing us to coordinate logistics, discuss fitting details and keep everyone aligned despite the geographical distances involved. The buzz around the upcoming Solheim Cup is palpable. It seems that every conversation I have these days inevitably circles back to the event, whether I am speaking with a fellow professional, a sponsor or a fan.
Balancing my responsibilities as a touring player with the duties of captain has been challenging, but the Ladies European Tour, the LPGA and my management team have provided invaluable support, helping me navigate this dual role. Being on this journey alongside the players is precisely why I agreed to take on the captaincy. When I am paired with my teammates during practice rounds, I get a front‑row seat to their preparation, their mindset and the subtle nuances that make each athlete unique. This proximity not only deepens my understanding of the team’s strengths but also strengthens the camaraderie that will be crucial when the competition begins.
Stay tuned for the next edition of Captain's Corner, where I will share more insights into the team’s development, behind‑the‑scenes anecdotes, and perhaps a few more sneak peeks at the wardrobe choices that will soon be on display in the Netherlands. Anna Nordqvist’s column was supplied by the Ladies European Tour ahead of the Solheim Cup, which will be broadcast live from September 11‑13 on Sky Sports.
