Wessel Nijman has maintained his remarkable run in 2026, clinching his fourth Players Championship title and fifth ranking title overall, following a successful campaign at the latest Milton Keynes tournament. Nijman, who also emerged victorious at the European Darts Trophy in March, achieved an impressive 8-5 win over Jermaine Wattimena in the all-Dutch final at Players Championship 12, adding to his previous wins at PC2, PC8, and PC10.
Meanwhile, Beau Greaves, who made history by becoming the first woman to secure a PDC ranking title with her win at PC11, was eliminated in the last 16. Andy Bissell handed Greaves a 6-0 defeat, before overcoming Max Hopp 6-3 in the quarter-finals, only to be defeated 7-4 by Nijman in the semi-finals. The win set up a final showdown between Nijman and Wattimena, with the latter initially taking the lead courtesy of clinical combination finishing. Wattimena established a 4-2 lead as he sought his first ranking title since October, but Nijman regained his composure to win six of the next seven legs, ultimately securing an 8-5 victory.
Nijman reflected on the final, stating, 'It was a bit of a nervy match. I fell behind after missing some doubles.' He added, 'I'm thrilled I managed to keep it together. There were some crucial finishes, like the 57 to go 6-5 up, which was important.' With this win, Nijman leapfrogs Wattimena and breaks into the world's top 16 for the first time.
