Noah Caluori's impressive five-try haul spearheaded Saracens' record-breaking 85-19 victory over Sale, reigniting their outside chances of reaching the Premiership playoffs. The 19-year-old winger, who scored five tries in his first Premiership start against Sale last October, replicated this feat, helping Saracens achieve their largest Premiership win. Saracens dominated the first half, scoring six unanswered tries to lead 38-0 at halftime, exposing Sale's defensive vulnerabilities.
The visitors' tries came from Rotimi Segun, Caluori, Tom Willis, Rhys Carre, Fergus Burke, and Caluori again, putting them in total control. Although Sale's Tom O'Flaherty and Asher Opoku-Fordjour scored in the second half, Saracens added seven more tries, with Caluori claiming three, and Charlie Bracken, Nathan Michelow, Max Malins, and Ben Earl also touching down. This bonus-point win brings Saracens within nine points of fourth-placed Exeter, with five rounds remaining.
Conversely, the defeat marks another significant setback for Sale, who have now lost 10 of their 13 league games this season, leaving them in seventh place. The Sharks were also recently eliminated from the Champions Cup, losing 43-13 to Leinster in the quarterfinals, and are on track for a bottom-half finish in the Premiership.
Saracens' victory began with Segun's try inside the left channel, followed by Caluori's score after Maro Itoje's assist. The visitors' third try came from a lineout, with Willis stretching out to touch down, before Carre crashed over for the fourth. Burke's try, which involved chipping the ball over Sale's defense, was a highlight of the first half. Caluori's second try, facilitated by fine handling, further extended Saracens' lead.
Sale improved after halftime, with O'Flaherty diving over in the right corner, but Saracens soon responded with Caluori's inside pass sending Bracken over. Caluori then seized center stage, scoring his hat-trick try and soon adding his fourth and fifth tries.
Michelow, Malins, and Earl also finished clinically from close range, with Burke ending the game with nine conversions and Owen Farrell adding one. Sale had the final say, with Opoku-Fordjour powering over and George Ford converting.
