Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his second PGA Tour victory of the season, overcoming a late stumble to defeat world number one Scottie Scheffler in a play-off at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick, who began the final day with a three-shot lead, seemed in control after extending his advantage with two birdies in his first three holes at Harbour Town Golf Links. However, Scheffler mounted a late charge, closing with consecutive birdies to force a play-off after Fitzpatrick bogeyed the final hole.
Fitzpatrick regained his composure, firing his approach to 12 feet on the first extra hole and sinking the birdie to secure his second RBC Heritage title in four years. The win propelled Fitzpatrick to a career-high world ranking of third and made him the fourth Englishman to win multiple PGA Tour titles in the same season.
Scheffler's runner-up finish was his second in as many weeks, following his close call at The Masters. Fitzpatrick's victory also sets him up for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he will partner his brother Alex in the two-man team event.
