Manchester United's Harry Maguire will be unavailable for the upcoming match against Chelsea due to an additional one-match ban imposed for misconduct. An independent regulatory commission charged Maguire with acting in an improper manner after his red card against Bournemouth on March 20, during which he allegedly used abusive language towards the fourth official, Matt Donohue.
Maguire, who has already served a suspension for the red card and missed the 2-1 defeat to Leeds, has admitted to the offence and been fined £30,000. The incident occurred when Maguire was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity, and he reacted by swearing at Donohue.
The FA's written reasons stated that Donohue claimed Maguire said, 'You're a joke, you're all a f****** joke,' as he left the field, although Maguire claimed he did not insult the official directly. With Maguire and Lisandro Martinez, who was also sent off, unavailable for the Chelsea match, Manchester United's centre-back options are limited. The team will have to rely on alternative defenders, including potentially Luke Shaw or young players from the youth ranks, such as Godwill Kukonki.
