The England Boxing National Amateur Championships showcased the sport's future talent, with Ruby White claiming her first senior national title in the flyweight category. White, a World U19 champion and four-time European age group champion, defeated Madi Gittens of Box Club in the elite finals in Derby.
This victory marked White's continuation of an impressive winning streak, with over 60 unbeaten contests. 'I'm thrilled to have proven people wrong as a first-year senior,' White said.
'The leap from youth to senior level is massive, but I've demonstrated that I belong on the big stage and hope to soon compete for Great Britain.' White attributes her success to her unwavering dedication and unrelenting passion for the sport. 'I train harder than anyone else, and my desire to be the best surpasses everyone else's,' she added. In the men's flyweight division, Billy Macey became a two-time national champion after his opponent, Yusuf Uddin, was disqualified and shoved the referee. Macey emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, stating, 'Regardless of the outcome, you must conduct yourself with dignity and respect.' The championships also saw Adekali Kargbo dethrone reigning 90kg champion Akinola Tijani, while Clinton Achusim won the super-heavyweight title.
Amo Singh and Joe Turner also secured victories in their respective categories. The GB boxing team is set to compete in the World Boxing Cup event in Brazil, with Sacha Hickey, Lauren Mackie, and Chantelle Reid representing the women's team, and Ellis Trowbridge, Will Hewitt, and Teagn Stott among the men's line-up.
