Jamaican Bobsleigh Team Secures Spot at 2026 Winter Olympics with Ex-British Athlete On Board

Jamaica's bobsleigh team has earned a spot at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy, solidifying the nation's legacy in the sport that inspired the Disney film 'Cool Runnings'. The movie was loosely based on Jamaica's inaugural appearance in the four-man bobsleigh event at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada. Since then, the country has qualified for the Olympics in 1992, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2014, and 2022, with a women's team making its debut in 2018. This year, Jamaica will be represented by a two-man team, a four-man team, and a women's monobob, featuring former British bobsledder and track athlete Mica Moore. Moore, who achieved Britain's best women's bobsleigh result with an eighth-place finish at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games alongside Mica McNeill, left the British winter sports program in 2022 citing 'damaging and offensive behaviour'. The 37-year-old, who began her career as a track athlete representing Wales in the 4×100 meters relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, obtained Jamaican citizenship in December 2024. In a social media post, Moore expressed her excitement, stating, 'This is the greatest honor of my career - representing my Jamaican heritage at the Olympics, a moment I've only dreamt of! I hope I can make you all proud!' Jamaica's two-man bobsleigh team consists of Nimroy Turgott, Joel Fearon, and Junior Harris, while the four-man team is comprised of Andrae Dacres, Junior Harris, Tyquendo Tracey, and Joel Fearon. The Jamaica Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation praised the athletes, coaches, and federation, saying, 'This qualification cements Jamaica's position as one of the most consistent tropical nations competing in winter sports... Let's bring that fire to the ice!' Additionally, Jamaica's two-woman team is ranked as the first alternate and will participate in the Games if another country withdraws from competition. The Milano Cortina Winter Olympics will take place from Friday, February 6 to Sunday, February 22, in northern Italy.
