Bournemouth's head coach, Andoni Iraola, has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. According to Sky Sports News, Marco Rose, formerly of RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, is among the top three candidates to succeed Iraola. Iraola's contract is set to expire in three months, and despite numerous offers to extend his stay, he has chosen to depart. The Spanish coach has been with Bournemouth for three years, achieving a record-breaking tenure on the south coast.
His final home game will be against Manchester City on May 17, followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest on the last day of the Premier League season. Bournemouth had attempted to persuade Iraola to stay, but he decided it was the right time to step away. The club has been searching for a new head coach in the background and has shortlisted three favored candidates. Bournemouth currently sits 11th in the Premier League and still has a chance to qualify for Europe.
Iraola has been a popular figure at the club since his appointment in June 2023, implementing an attacking and dynamic style of football. He will depart as one of the Premier League's most sought-after coaching prospects.
Athletic Club is interested in bringing Iraola back to the Basque Country, while other clubs, such as Crystal Palace and Tottenham, have also been linked to him. Manchester United and Newcastle are also rumored to be considering Iraola as a potential head coach.
