Nijman Clinches Fourth Ranking Title of 2026
Wessel Nijman continued his remarkable start to 2026, securing his fourth ranking title of the year with a dominant victory at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman defeated former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final to reclaim the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. This win came after Chris Dobey briefly overtook Nijman following his victory at Players Championship Nine, but the Dutchman responded with an impressive performance at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. Nijman's path to the title included a hard-fought win against Martin Lukeman, followed by victories over Justin Hood, Adam Gawlas, Niels Zonneveld, and Beau Greaves. He averaged almost 110 in a six-leg demolition of Gawlas and maintained a high level of performance throughout the tournament. In the final, Nijman capitalized on Waites' slow start to establish an early lead, ultimately winning with a 101.34 average. "Today was probably the best floor event I've played all year," Nijman admitted. "I hit so many averages above 105, it was a really good day." Nijman is now targeting more silverware in the upcoming European Darts Grand Prix and aims to break into the top 16 on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder. Elsewhere, Beau Greaves made it back-to-back quarter-finals with impressive wins over Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies.
