Sonny Baker Impresses with 'Huge Ceiling' as England Hopes Rise
Fast bowler Sonny Baker has been praised for his exceptional talent, with Hampshire captain Ben Brown stating that the 23-year-old has a 'huge ceiling' as a bowler. Baker's impressive performance in the County Championship, including a five-for against Somerset, has further strengthened his case for an England call-up. He finished with 5-62 from 17 overs, but it wasn't enough to secure a win for Hampshire as Somerset claimed a tense two-wicket victory. Baker's form has been outstanding, with 13 wickets in the first three games of the County Championship at an average of 21.84. His ability to bowl at speeds of up to 90 mph has made him a nightmare for tailenders to face. Although Baker struggled in his international debut against South Africa last summer, his recent performances have put him back on England's radar. A successful 2025 Hundred tournament, where he took nine wickets in seven matches, had already caught the attention of the selectors. With a one-year central contract from England in November, Baker is likely to be considered for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand starting on June 4.
