Emma Raducanu has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Madrid Open, as she continues her rehabilitation from post-viral symptoms. The British number one had also pulled out of recent WTA Tour events in Miami and Linz, prioritizing her recovery.
Raducanu, who also missed Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, has resumed training and is hopeful of participating in the Rome tournament in early May. Her last match was at Indian Wells on March 8, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova.
Raducanu acknowledged that she needs to work on her aggression and utilize her strengths more effectively. Since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January, she has been informally working with Mark Petchey to regain her form.
Raducanu's next opportunity on clay will be the Italian Open, starting on May 5 in Rome. She joins a list of high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Barbora Krejcikova, who have also withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
