The Englishman's victory marked his fourth PGA Tour title and second win in as many starts.
Fitzpatrick's caddie used similar words of encouragement that McIlroy's caddie, Harry Diamond, had used during the Masters. Fitzpatrick said, 'He actually said, getting to the tee, we'd have taken this start of the week.' This motivated Fitzpatrick to hit a remarkable four-iron shot and secure the winning birdie putt. The golfer, who briefly had a four-shot lead, praised his caddie's advice, saying it helped him stay focused and composed under pressure.
Fitzpatrick also commended the crowd for creating an electric atmosphere, despite their support for Scheffler. The Englishman even poked fun at American Ryder Cup fans, saying they had short memories, given the recent Ryder Cup victory. Scheffler, who finished runner-up, also appreciated the crowd's support, saying they were 'pretty cordial' in their cheering.
The PGA Tour now heads to Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event.
