Following her loss to former heavyweight titleholder Lani Daniels in New York, Shadasia Green underwent treatment for a brain hemorrhage. Green and Daniels had been competing for the unified IBF and WBO super-middleweight titles on the undercard of the Alycia Baumgardner vs. Bo Mi Re Shin match at the Madison Square Garden Theater.
The fight was stopped in the ninth round after Daniels landed several shots, prompting the referee to intervene and Green to be stretchered out of the ring. In a social media post, Green revealed that she had lost consciousness due to the brain bleed but was on the path to recovery in the ICU, adding, "I'll be back to claim what's mine, 100%." Green had previously won a unified world championship title by defeating Britain's Savannah Marshall and was being considered as a potential opponent for multi-weight undisputed champion Claressa Shields. Green expressed gratitude to those who showed concern during the fight and thanked her promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, and Most Valuable Promotions for their support during her hospital stay.
Most Valuable Promotions also released a statement, saying, "We are working closely with Shadasia and her family, and we would like to extend our appreciation to the New York State Athletic Commission, Madison Square Garden, and the hospital for their care and leadership."
