In a bid to enhance its performance and innovation, Red Bull has unveiled significant changes to its technical department. Ben Waterhouse, a key figure in the team since 2017 as head of performance engineering, will take on an expanded role as chief performance and design engineer.
He will be reporting directly to Technical Director Pierre Wache. This new role will see Waterhouse overseeing both design and vehicle performance, thereby fostering greater integration between these areas and accelerating the development of high-performance solutions.
Additionally, Andrea Landi is set to join the team on July 1 as head of performance, moving from Racing Bulls where he has been deputy technical director. Landi, who has also worked with Ferrari as deputy head of vehicle performance, will report to Waterhouse. According to a statement by Red Bull, these changes underscore the team's long-term technical aspirations and its commitment to nurturing internal talent while drawing in top expertise from across the sport.
Red Bull has faced a challenging start to the new era of F1 regulations, currently sitting sixth in the Constructors' Championship, 119 points behind leaders Mercedes after just three races. The team has also experienced a series of key departures to rival teams in recent years, including the recent announcement that Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen's race engineer and head of racing, will join McLaren in 2028. The Formula 1 season resumes on May 1-3 with the Miami Grand Prix, the second Sprint weekend of the season, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports F1.
