Rose Reflects on Missed Opportunity as Scheffler and Hatton Finish Strong

Justin Rose expressed disappointment at letting a chance slip away, as he narrowly missed out on claiming Masters glory at Augusta National. Rose, a three-time runner-up, had been in the lead by two shots during the final round, having carded four birdies in five holes, including one at the ninth. However, his momentum was halted by consecutive bogeys at the 11th and 12th holes, and he failed to capitalize on a superb second shot into the 13th, three-putting for par. This allowed Rory McIlroy to overtake him, and Rose ultimately finished in a four-way tie for third place with a 10-under-par total, two strokes behind McIlroy. Rose acknowledged that he had been in control but lost momentum around Amen Corner, stating, 'I was really in control... The mentality was to run through the finish line, not just try and get it done.' Despite his disappointment, Rose praised the patrons at Augusta National, saying, 'The crowd was amazing to me all week long.' Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 and 2024 winner, secured second place behind McIlroy with a total of 11 under par, thanks to a bogey-free 68 in the final round. Scheffler reflected on his performance, saying, 'The first two days I played what I felt was really solid... But overall, over the weekend, I put up a good fight and am proud of how I played.' Tyrrell Hatton also made a strong finish, with a tremendous run on the back nine that saw him threaten to pull off a shock victory. Hatton started the day seven shots off the lead but made inroads with an eagle two at the par-four seventh and four successive birdies from the 13th. He eventually finished with a six-under 66, securing a share of third place with a 10-under-par total of 278. Hatton expressed his happiness with the round, saying, 'I'm really happy with the round that I put together... Happy that I've kind of guaranteed a spot here for next year.' The PGA Tour now heads to South Carolina for the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, while the next men's major is the PGA Championship from May 14-17, held at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
