Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike is set to miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup with France after sustaining a severe Achilles injury. The 23-year-old was forced to leave the pitch during the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield and subsequent scans confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon.
As a result, Ekitike will be sidelined for at least six months, with a possible recovery time of up to nine months. France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed his support for the young player, stating that Ekitike had integrated well into the team and that his injury is a significant blow.
Ekitike's absence comes at a crucial time for Liverpool, who are striving to secure a spot in next season's Champions League. The team has been plagued by injuries throughout the season, with Alexander Isak recently returning from a serious leg injury and other key players also facing time on the sidelines.
