Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to step down as head coach of Catalans Dragons, a position he held for nearly a year, citing 'personal reasons'. Tomkins, a former England international in both rugby league and union, found the time spent away from his family to be challenging. After a recent stint back home, he decided to leave the Dragons after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently sixth in the standings. Initially, Tomkins took on the role as interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure but was soon appointed to the position permanently. Tomkins reflected on his time at Catalans Dragons, stating that his experience had been invaluable, both personally and professionally, and that he is grateful for the friendships and experiences he gained. However, the prolonged period away from his family proved difficult, leading to his decision to leave the club. Tomkins expressed his gratitude to the players, staff, and supporters and wished the club success for the remainder of the season. His absence from the last three fixtures had sparked speculation about his departure. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will take over as interim head coach, with their first game on April 18 against the Warrington Wolves.
