In a remarkable display, Kap Vert, trained by Philip Hobbs and owned by Johnson White, claimed the prestigious Coral Scottish Grand National, outpacing Git Maker and Kim Roque. Under the skilled guidance of Sean Houlihan, the six-year-old demonstrated exceptional strength and agility, navigating the challenging fences with ease.
Despite his relative inexperience, Kap Vert's jumping technique withstood scrutiny, a feat not achieved by Midlands National winner Isaac Des Obeaux, who faltered and finished fourth after a crucial error. Meanwhile, Git Maker, having almost lost his rider, Jonathan Burke, nearly a mile from the finish, staged a remarkable recovery to secure second place, just a length and a half behind the winner, while Kim Roque, the 4-1 favourite, took third.
This triumph served as a welcome consolation for Hobbs and White, who had earlier finished second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle with Captain Hugo, and they will return to Somerset with the substantial £112,000 first prize.
