Alcaraz Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

World-class tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Barcelona Open due to a severe right wrist injury. The two-time champion in Barcelona won his opening match but required medical attention for wrist pain. Alcaraz, who was set to face Tomas Machac in the second round, decided to withdraw after undergoing a test on his wrist. He expressed that the injury is more serious than expected and he needs to prioritize his health. The Spaniard will now focus on recovery to prepare for upcoming tournaments, including the defence of his French Open title. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie advanced to the quarter-finals in Barcelona, while Katie Boulter progressed to the last eight on the WTA Tour. Iga Swiatek secured a quarter-final berth at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, marking her first match with new coach Francisco Roig. Novak Djokovic has announced his return to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, live on Sky Sports Tennis from April 21 to May 3.
