LIV Golf CEO Downplays Financial Concerns Amid Speculation

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil has alleviated concerns regarding the series' funding, stating that it is 'funded through the season' and that the organization will 'work tirelessly' to ensure its continuation. This comes amid speculation that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the primary backer of the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support. The PIF has invested a reported $5 billion since the series' inception in 2021. O'Neil's comments were in response to rumors sparked by LIV team captain Sergio Garcia's remarks about funding being secured until 2030. Garcia stated, 'I can't tell you anything more than we already know,' when asked about the speculation. O'Neil emphasized that the series has commitments in place to continue operating and that it is not unusual for private equity-funded businesses to work towards creating a sustainable business plan. Earlier, O'Neil informed LIV staff that the current season would proceed as planned, without any interruptions. The PIF has not commented on the matter, but its governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan, mentioned that some investments are being reviewed due to economic feasibility and the Middle East conflict. LIV Golf players, including Ryder Cup star Jon Rahm, have expressed that they are not overly concerned about the series' future, with Rahm stating, 'Until the people in charge told me if the rumors were valid or not, it didn't make sense for me to think about it or to waste time thinking about it.' The ongoing LIV event in Mexico City has proceeded without any disruptions, despite a broadcasting issue on Thursday.
