Crystal Palace Overcome Fiorentina to Secure Conference League Semi-Final Spot

Crystal Palace have booked their place in the Conference League semi-finals after overcoming a spirited Fiorentina side, despite losing the second leg 2-1 in Florence. The Eagles had built a commanding 3-0 lead in the first leg at Selhurst Park, and Ismaila Sarr's early header in the second leg seemed to put the tie beyond Fiorentina's reach. However, the Italian side fought back, scoring either side of early injury substitutions for Adam Wharton and Maxence Lacroix. Although Fiorentina's second-leg display was an improvement on their lackluster first-leg performance, it was not enough to prevent Palace from reaching their first European semi-final, where they will face Shakhtar Donetsk. Crystal Palace become the fifth English club to reach the Conference League last four, following in the footsteps of Chelsea, West Ham, Leicester, and Aston Villa. Palace's journey to the semi-finals has been far from smooth, with the club initially not supposed to be in the competition due to UEFA ownership rules. Nevertheless, they have made history and are now within touching distance of the final in Leipzig. Manager Oliver Glasner will be looking to put the icing on the cake by securing the club's first European trophy, and the team will be hoping to deliver something special for their fans after a difficult season. The first leg of the semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk is scheduled for April 30, with the second leg taking place on May 7. Palace will have the advantage of hosting the return leg at Selhurst Park, after traveling to Poland for the first leg, which is where Shakhtar play their home games due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
