Fitzpatrick had let a four-shot lead slip away during the final round, but he rebounded by sinking a winning birdie putt on the first extra hole to claim his fourth PGA Tour title. The advice from his caddie, Daniel Parratt, was similar to what McIlroy's caddie, Harry Diamond, had told him during his Masters win. Fitzpatrick joked that Parratt was channeling Diamond, and the comment helped him stay focused and hit a crucial four-iron shot. Fitzpatrick had taken a three-shot lead into the final day but stumbled late, allowing Scottie Scheffler to force a playoff. However, Fitzpatrick's grit and determination paid off as he emerged victorious. He praised the crowd for creating a lively atmosphere, even though they were largely cheering for Scheffler. Fitzpatrick said the experience was similar to winning an away match in football, and he enjoyed the challenge of competing against a vocal crowd. Scheffler also appreciated the crowd's support, saying they were respectful and cheered for him without being overly negative towards Fitzpatrick. The PGA Tour now heads to Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, a two-man team event.
