Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Weighs Future After Playoff Exit

Following the Golden State Warriors' play-in loss to the Phoenix Suns, coach Steve Kerr is uncertain about his future with the team. The Warriors' season came to an end with a 111-96 defeat, and Kerr suggested he may leave his role after their campaign concluded on Friday night. Kerr, a four-time NBA champion coach, has been at the helm for 12 seasons and has led the Warriors to the NBA Finals in each of his first five seasons, plus one additional appearance. The 60-year-old coach finished his 12th season with a 604-353 record and also guided USA Basketball to an Olympic gold medal in the 2024 Paris Games. After the game, Kerr shared an emotional moment with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, the team's constants during their title runs under Kerr. When asked about his future, Kerr stated, 'It might still go on. It may not.' Curry and Green expressed their desire for Kerr to return, but his future has been the subject of speculation due to his contract expiring this year. Kerr plans to meet with Warriors owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy to discuss the team's path forward. The coach acknowledged that he still loves coaching but recognizes that these jobs have an expiration date, and sometimes it's time for new ideas and blood. If Kerr decides to leave, he will be grateful for the opportunity to coach the franchise and players like Curry and Green.
