Emma Raducanu Withdraws from Madrid Open Due to Ongoing Recovery
British tennis star Emma Raducanu has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Madrid Open, citing her ongoing recovery from post-viral symptoms as the primary reason. Raducanu, who is currently the British No 1, has also pulled out of recent WTA Tour events in Miami and Linz to focus on her rehabilitation. The decision comes after she contracted an illness in early February while in Romania. Although Raducanu has resumed training, she is taking a cautious approach to ensure a full recovery. Her last competitive match was at Indian Wells on March 8, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova. Raducanu has been working with Mark Petchey on an informal basis since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January. She aims to return to competitive tennis at the Italian Open in Rome, scheduled to start on May 5, followed by tournaments in Strasbourg and Rabat before the French Open. Raducanu joins a list of high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Barbora Krejcikova, who have withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
