McIlroy Relishes 'Incredible' Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy reflected on the challenges he faced in defending his Masters title, admitting it would have been tough to accept not converting a record-breaking halfway lead into a win. McIlroy became the fourth player to achieve back-to-back Masters victories, following his dramatic playoff win over Justin Rose last year, by securing a one-shot win over Scottie Scheffler. Despite building a six-shot halfway lead, the largest in Masters history, McIlroy fell behind during the final day after dropping three shots in two holes. However, he responded with four birdies to claim his sixth major title. McIlroy acknowledged the difficulty of winning at Augusta National, stating, 'I don't make it easy!' He joins Jack Nicklaus, Sir Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods as the only players to win The Masters in successive years. McIlroy expressed his delight at getting the job done, considering it 'incredible' that he only needed to shoot even-par over the weekend to win. With this victory, McIlroy has completed the third leg of the Grand Slam and now holds two Green Jackets, a testament to his perseverance at the tournament.
