Fitzpatrick Holds Off Scheffler to Win RBC Heritage in Playoff

Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his second PGA Tour victory of the season, overcoming a late stumble to defeat world No 1 Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at the RBC Heritage. Fitzpatrick had begun the final day with a three-shot lead at Harbour Town Golf Links and initially extended his advantage with two birdies in his first three holes. However, Scheffler rallied with back-to-back birdies to force a playoff after Fitzpatrick bogeyed the final hole. In the playoff, Fitzpatrick sank a birdie on the par-four 18th to secure the win, moving him to a career-high world No 3. This victory makes Fitzpatrick the fourth Englishman to achieve multiple PGA Tour wins in the same season. Fitzpatrick had started strongly, birdieing the first and third holes to maintain a four-shot lead. Despite Scheffler's efforts to close the gap, Fitzpatrick held firm until the final hole, where a bogey allowed Scheffler to catch up. In the playoff, Fitzpatrick's birdie proved decisive, as Scheffler was unable to match it. Scheffler's runner-up finish is his second in consecutive weeks, following his second-place finish at The Masters. Si Woo Kim finished third, two strokes behind Fitzpatrick. The PGA Tour now heads to Louisiana for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where Fitzpatrick will partner his brother Alex.
