Mercedes Intensifies Efforts to Improve Race Starts

George Russell has revealed that the Mercedes team is diligently working to enhance their race starts, a weakness they are eager to overcome ahead of the Formula 1 season's resumption in Miami. Despite securing four front row lockouts in the initial three Grands Prix and Sprint, neither Russell nor his teammate has managed to lead after the first lap. The team's inability to secure a strong start has been their most significant vulnerability, but they have demonstrated sufficient pace to recover and win the first three races. Ferrari has excelled in starts this season, attributed to their compact turbo, which enables quicker spin-up times and makes it easier for drivers to find the ideal launch window. While drivers have limited opportunities to practice starts, Russell emphasized that the team is focusing on data analysis to address this flaw. In an interview during Pirelli tire testing in Germany, Russell stated that extensive work is being done behind the scenes, including simulator days and data analysis, to understand and improve their starts. The team is preparing for the upcoming Miami and Montreal sprint races, and Russell expressed hope that they can build on their findings to enhance their performance.
