Exeter Claims Victory with Slade's Decisive Penalty Kick

In a nail-biting finish, Henry Slade's penalty kick in the 78th minute secured Exeter's 44-41 win over Benetton, setting the stage for a Challenge Cup semi-final against Ulster in Belfast. Benetton had taken the lead with 15 minutes remaining through Jacob Umaga's try, but Slade's leveler four minutes later and subsequent winner sparked outrage among the home fans. The first half was a frantic affair, with Exeter leading 14-7 after Olly Woodburn's early score and a penalty try. They extended their lead to 24-14 with Immanuel Feyi-Waboso's try and Slade's conversion and penalty. However, the hosts drew level at the break thanks to Onisi Ratave's outstanding try, Umaga's conversion, and a penalty. Bordeaux's Maxime Lamothe powered over off a maul in the 23rd minute, but Toulouse responded instantly with Yoram Moefana failing to catch the kick-off and Romain Ntamack darting in on the right. A late first-half stoppage occurred after Toulouse prop Dorian Aldegheri was given a 20-minute red card for a high-danger challenge on Damian Penaud. Despite this, Toulouse took a 12-5 lead into the break with Teddy Thomas's try. After Thomas Ramos strengthened Toulouse's advantage with an early second-half penalty, Bordeaux rallied with Matthieu Jalibert collecting his own kick through and diving over. Toulouse's Antoine Dupont was then shown a yellow card for a trip, and Bordeaux took control with Ben Tameifuna's try and Maxime Lucu's long-range penalty. Any hopes of a late comeback were extinguished when Arthur Retiere touched down Bordeaux's fourth try, and Lucu slotted over another penalty to seal the win.
