Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Barcelona Open due to a wrist injury that proved more severe than initially anticipated. The two-time champion at the event had been seeking to regain the world's top ranking and had won his first-round match against Otto Virtanen. However, he experienced wrist pain during the game and underwent further examination, which revealed the injury. Alcaraz stated that he must prioritize his health and withdraw from the tournament to avoid further complications. His withdrawal comes as he prepares to defend his French Open title, which begins on May 24. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie advanced to the quarter-finals in Barcelona, while Katie Boulter progressed to the last eight on the WTA Tour. Novak Djokovic announced his return to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Tennis from April 21 to May 3.
