McIlroy Tied with Young After Stunning Collapse at The Masters

Rory McIlroy's historic six-shot lead evaporated as he found himself tied with Cameron Young heading into the final day of The Masters. McIlroy, who began the weekend with the largest 36-hole lead in tournament history, struggled to maintain his pace and ultimately dropped to 11 under after a third-round 73. Young, on the other hand, charged from eight strokes behind to take the clubhouse lead with a remarkable seven-under 65. McIlroy managed to regain some ground with back-to-back birdies but a bogey on his penultimate hole pulled him back alongside Young. Sam Burns trails by one stroke in third place, while Shane Lowry, who achieved a hole-in-one during his third-round 68, is among eight players within four strokes of the lead. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler also regained contention with a 65, matching Young's score. McIlroy's chances of becoming a back-to-back champion were dealt a significant blow, but he remains optimistic about his prospects. 'I still have a great chance,' McIlroy said, 'I'm in the final group, which is exactly where you want to be.' Young's impressive performance, which included eight birdies and a lone bogey, has set the stage for an intense final round. Live coverage of the last round will begin at 4:30 pm on Sunday on Sky Sports Golf.
