John Cartwright has stepped down as Hull FC's head coach, effective immediately, to be succeeded by Steve McNamara in 2027. McNamara, who will join his boyhood club, has agreed to take over the role for the 2027 Betfred Super League season. In the interim, assistant coach Andy Last will assume the head coach position for the remainder of the current season. McNamara, renowned for his coaching prowess, will continue as assistant coach at Warrington Wolves until the end of the 2026 campaign. His distinguished coaching career spans over two decades, with notable stints at Bradford Bulls, Catalans Dragons, and the England international side, as well as experience in the NRL with Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors. During his tenure with Catalans Dragons, McNamara led the team to unprecedented success, including a Challenge Cup final victory, a League Leaders Shield win, and two Super League Grand Final appearances. Hull FC's chief executive, Richie Myler, expressed delight at securing McNamara's services, citing his exceptional coaching caliber and deep understanding of the club and city. Chairman Andrew Thirkill echoed this sentiment, emphasizing McNamara's experience, leadership, and high standards as crucial in building a competitive team.
