Nijman Secures Fourth Ranking Title of 2026
Wessel Nijman continued his impressive start to 2026 by claiming his fourth ranking title of the year at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. Nijman defeated former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final to regain the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. This victory came after Chris Dobey briefly overtook Nijman following his win at Players Championship Nine. Nijman began his campaign with a hard-fought win against Martin Lukeman, then proceeded to dominate his subsequent matches, including a 6-leg demolition of Adam Gawlas, averaging nearly 110. He maintained his high level of performance throughout the tournament, ultimately leading to his decisive victory over Waites in the final. Nijman expressed his satisfaction with his performance, stating it was his best floor event of the year. With this win, Nijman climbs to 18th on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder and sets his sights on further success, aiming to break into the top 16. The Dutchman also reflected on his recent maiden big-stage success at the European Darts Trophy and is looking forward to the European Darts Grand Prix. Elsewhere in the tournament, Beau Greaves impressed with back-to-back quarter-final appearances, defeating notable players such as Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies.
