Rangers Stun Falkirk with Nine-Goal Thriller to Keep Pressure on Hearts

In a remarkable turnaround, Rangers came from behind to defeat Falkirk, keeping their Scottish Premiership title hopes alive with five matches remaining. The day began with Rangers in third place following wins by Hearts and Celtic on Saturday. However, things seemed to take a turn for the worse when Ben Broggio and Finn Yeats gave Falkirk a 2-0 lead. Tochi Chukwuani's goal before the break sparked a comeback, and a blistering start to the second half saw Rangers take a 3-2 lead thanks to goals from Youssef Chermiti and Nico Raskin. Rangers continued to push, with Bojan Miovski adding a fourth goal before Falkirk's Calvin Miller scored from the penalty spot after James Tavernier brought down Filip Lissah. Danny Röhl's team demonstrated their title credentials as both Miovski and Chermiti scored again, putting the game out of reach. Rangers have moved back into second place, just a point behind leaders Hearts, with Celtic two points further back. This season, the top three teams in the Premiership had only previously all won on the same weekend once, a record Rangers were eager to maintain. Chukwuani's contentious goal just before half-time ignited an incredible comeback. The home team appeared to stop in anticipation of a goal kick after Raskin's cross curled over the goalmouth, but the ball landed on the head of Djeidi Gassama, whose header hit the post before Chukwuani converted the rebound. Röhl's introduction of Bojan Miovski for Mikey Moore at the break was a crucial change. Gassama was moved to the left and won the ball on the edge of the Falkirk box, with his low cross flicked home by Chermiti, who soon missed another chance to put his team in front. Rangers had much more threat about them and took the lead in the 52nd minute when Raskin ran round the outside of Aasgaard and hit the Norwegian's pass first time into the far corner. Chermiti missed another chance before Raskin set up Miovski to bundle home with a cross from the left. Falkirk got a lifeline in the 70th minute when Miller netted from the spot after Tavernier had brought down Filip Lissah. But Raskin was involved again when Rangers restored their two-goal cushion, bursting forward before Chermiti netted after Gassama's shot was blocked. The Belgian midfielder was eventually booked for a clash with Dylan Tait after earlier escaping yellow cards for a clear pull and embracing Rangers fans after his goal. Miovski rounded off the scoring two minutes from time when he converted Oliver Antman's low cross from close range. Rangers head coach Danny Röhl spoke to Sky Sports: "Our start was not great. It was exactly what we expected, and we struggled in the first 10-15 minutes with the pitch. "But the reaction was outstanding. We focused on our job to do. "It's much easier to go into this small break with a win, of course, but the spirit is great, and after the game, you see the relationship, the connection between our supporters and the team. "We are one team now, and this is great. "Looking back, four or five months ago, I was in this situation here in Falkirk, and today, after the game, it shows a lot about our direction from the club and keeps going, keeps believing what the supporters told us, and that's what we have to do."
