A new ATP 250 tournament is coming to Milan in 2028, with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation having acquired the rights to the event. The federation's president, Angelo Binaghi, announced that the tournament will take place in June and may be held at the San Siro stadium, which is home to AC Milan and Inter Milan. While the venue is yet to be confirmed, Binaghi noted that the stadium's large capacity and northern Italy's climate make it an attractive option.
The federation has also been working to enhance the country's tennis infrastructure, including the addition of a retractable roof at the Foro Italico and the hosting of several high-profile tournaments, including the ATP Finals and the Rome Masters. Binaghi expressed his ambition to establish the Rome tournament as a fifth Grand Slam, rivaling the likes of Indian Wells. Meanwhile, Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner is seeking to make history by becoming the first Italian man to win the singles title at the Foro Italico in 50 years.
