Nijman Secures Fourth Ranking Title of 2026
Wessel Nijman continued his impressive run in 2026 by claiming his fourth ranking title at the Players Championship 10 in Wigan. He defeated former Grand Slam of Darts champion Scott Waites 8-2 in the final to reclaim the top spot in the Players Championship rankings. Nijman had briefly lost the top spot to Chris Dobey after Dobey's victory at Players Championship Nine, but he responded with a strong performance at the Robin Park Tennis Centre. Following a tough win over Martin Lukeman, Nijman went on to defeat Justin Hood, Adam Gawlas, Niels Zonneveld, and Beau Greaves to reach the final. In the semi-finals, he averaged 108.46 to overcome Luke Woodhouse. In the final, Nijman took advantage of Waites' slow start to establish an early lead and went on to win with a 101.34 average. "Today was probably the best floor event I've played all year," Nijman said. "I hit many averages above 105, it was a really good day." Nijman is now targeting more success at the European Darts Grand Prix and is aiming to break into the top 16 on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder. Elsewhere, Beau Greaves reached the quarter-finals for the second consecutive event, defeating Martin Schindler and Cameron Menzies along the way.
