The Spaniard, a two-time champion in Barcelona, had won his opening match but experienced wrist pain and underwent medical treatment. Following a test on his wrist, Alcaraz decided to withdraw from the tournament to avoid further injury. He expressed his disappointment, stating that he must prioritize his health and recovery, especially with upcoming tournaments, including the defense of his French Open title. Meanwhile, British No 1 Cameron Norrie advanced to the quarter-finals in Barcelona, while Katie Boulter and Iga Swiatek also progressed in their respective WTA Tour events. Novak Djokovic has announced his return to action at the Mutua Madrid Open, live on Sky Sports Tennis from April 21 to May 3.
