LIV Golf's CEO, Scott O'Neil, has downplayed concerns over the series' funding, stating that it is secured through the current season and that the organization will work diligently to ensure its continuation. This comes amidst speculation that the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which backs the breakaway golf league, may withdraw its financial support.
The PIF has invested a reported $5 billion in the series since its inception in 2021, positioning it as a rival to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Recently, team captain Sergio Garcia alluded to funding being in place until 2030, but O'Neil emphasized that the organization operates like any other private equity-funded business, with a focus on creating a sustainable business plan.
Despite reports of an 'emergency meeting' in New York and speculation about the PIF's future involvement, O'Neil assured that the season will proceed as planned. The PIF has not commented on the matter, but its governor, Yasir Al Rumayyan, mentioned that some investments are being reviewed due to economic feasibility and the Middle East conflict. LIV Golf players, including Jon Rahm, have expressed confidence in the league's future, with Rahm stating that he is 'not too worried' about the rumors surrounding the series' funding.
