Ekitike Ruled Out for Season and World Cup Due to Achilles Injury
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup with France after suffering a serious Achilles injury. The 23-year-old was forced off during the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield and subsequent scans confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon. As a result, Ekitike is expected to be sidelined for at least six months, with the worst-case scenario being an absence of up to nine months. France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed his support for the young striker, stating that he had integrated well into the team and his disappointment is immense. Ekitike's injury is a significant blow for Liverpool, who are aiming to secure a place in next season's Champions League. The club has been plagued by injuries this season, with several key players, including Alexander Isak and Alisson, missing game time due to various ailments. Liverpool's manager noted that the team has struggled to field its new-look attack, consisting of Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Ekitike, due to the frequency of injuries.
