Evan Williams, a 55-year-old trainer, has been sentenced to three years in prison for a violent assault on a 72-year-old dog walker who was on his land in Llancarfan, Vale of Glamorgan. The victim, Martin Dandridge, suffered severe injuries, including a fractured arm, after being repeatedly struck with a hockey stick.
Williams was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court. The judge, Recorder Angharad Price, condemned Williams' actions, stating that he had made a choice to confront the victim instead of waiting for the police to arrive. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, and Williams was convicted after a unanimous jury verdict. The judge emphasized that taking the law into one's own hands is never acceptable and that Williams should have called the police instead of resorting to violence.
Williams, a successful trainer with multiple Grade One wins, will now serve a three-year prison term.
