Liverpool boss Arne Slot criticizes VAR decision, feels his team has been unfairly treated

Arne Slot expressed his disappointment but not surprise at the VAR overturning a penalty decision in Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. He believes his team has been on the wrong end of numerous unfavorable decisions this season. Liverpool were knocked out of the competition after losing 2-0 at Anfield, resulting in a 4-0 aggregate defeat. The Reds had put in a spirited performance until Ousmane Dembele scored twice late in the game. A contentious moment came when Alexis Mac Allister was denied a penalty after a VAR review. Tim Sherwood, watching the game, felt it was a penalty, saying 'It's soft, but in my opinion, it is a penalty.' Slot, however, is not surprised, stating, 'I'm not surprised as so many decisions have gone against us this season.' Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate also felt it was a clear penalty, believing the outcome would have been different if the penalty had been awarded. Despite this, PSG had also been unfortunate not to be awarded penalties in the first leg, with VAR overturning decisions against them. Slot's Liverpool have struggled to replicate their form from last season and are under pressure to secure a top-five finish in the Premier League to qualify for the Champions League next season. Slot acknowledged the club is in transition, having sold several players to fund the signing of new talent, including Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. He remains optimistic about the future, citing the club's model as one that has proven to work.
