Nunez: My Goal Was to Become a Champion, That's Why I Left Norwich for Ipswich

Marcelino Nunez is preparing for a fiery reception at Carrow Road, the stadium he used to call home. The Chilean midfielder made the switch from Norwich to Ipswich in August, becoming the first player to do so since Andy Marshall in 2001. Nunez played a crucial role in helping Ipswich beat their rivals for the first time in 16 years, scoring the decisive goal in the previous East Anglian derby and then providing an assist in the 3-1 win that followed. "It was a big challenge, but we managed to turn it around and end the run," he says. "I was really happy about it, and my celebrations showed that." Nunez's passion and commitment to his new team are evident, and he is confident that Ipswich can achieve their goal of promotion to the Premier League. "I was clear about my objective, which was to fight for the championship, and that's why I made the decision to move to Ipswich," he explains. "The fans welcomed me incredibly well, and I'm very happy with the team and the manager. We are united and focused on our goal." Nunez's move to Ipswich was met with controversy, but he insists he bears no ill-will towards his former club. "It was a positive step in my career, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to play in Europe," he says. "But I felt Ipswich offered a better chance of achieving my ambitions, and I'm excited to be a part of this team." With eight assists and three goals to his name, Nunez has been instrumental in Ipswich's success this season. He credits manager Kieran McKenna for his impact, saying, "He's one of the best coaches I've had in my career. He organises training sessions well, keeps the dressing room united, and gives players confidence." Nunez is relaxed about Ipswich's promotion prospects, but he knows that reaching the Premier League would be a dream come true. "I always dreamt about it, but I never imagined it would happen so quickly," he says. "We just have to focus on each match and take it step by step. I think we will reach the Premier League, and I want to experience that feeling."
