Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to resign as head coach of Catalans Dragons, a position he held for nearly a year, citing personal reasons. The former England rugby league and union international found it challenging to be away from his family and, after a recent period at home, decided to leave the team after seven Super League games, with the side ranking sixth in the table. Tomkins initially took on the role as an interim coach following Steve McNamara's departure but was soon appointed to the permanent position at the club where he spent the last years of his playing career. 'My 18-month tenure at Catalans Dragons has been a mix of highlights and challenges, all of which I valued as a rookie head coach,' Tomkins stated. 'I've gained valuable experience, both personally and professionally, and I appreciate the friendships and experiences I've had. I'm leaving the club a better coach than when I arrived, but the prolonged separation from my family has been difficult.' After spending time at home due to personal reasons, Tomkins decided to step down and end his time at the club. 'I'm grateful to the players, staff, and supporters, and I wish the club success for the remainder of the season and beyond.' Tomkins had been absent from the club's last three fixtures, which sparked speculation about his exit. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will take over as interim head coach for the side's next game on April 18 against the top-of-the-table Warrington Wolves in the Super League.
