Hull FC Announces Coaching Change: Cartwright Departs, McNamara to Take Helm in 2027

John Cartwright has relinquished his position as head coach of Hull FC, effective immediately, as the club prepares for Steve McNamara's takeover in 2027. This development follows a joint announcement by Hull FC and Warrington Wolves, confirming McNamara's appointment as the new head coach for the 2027 Betfred Super League season. Although Cartwright is no longer at the helm, he remains a Hull FC employee. Assistant coach Andy Last will assume the role of interim head coach for the remainder of the current season. Meanwhile, McNamara will continue to serve as assistant coach at Warrington Wolves for the duration of the 2026 campaign. McNamara, a former Hull FC player, boasts an illustrious coaching career, having led teams such as Bradford Bulls, Catalans Dragons, and the England international side, as well as holding positions in the NRL with Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Warriors. During his tenure with Catalans Dragons, McNamara guided the team to unprecedented success, including a Challenge Cup final victory, a League Leaders Shield win, and two Super League Grand Final appearances. Hull FC chief executive Richie Myler expressed his delight at securing McNamara's services, praising him as a coach of the highest caliber with a deep understanding of the club and the city. Chairman Andrew Thirkill also welcomed McNamara's appointment, citing his experience, leadership, and high standards as crucial factors in the team's future success.
