Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to leave his position as head coach at Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons for his departure. Having served in the role for nearly a year, Tomkins found the time spent away from his family to be a significant challenge. Following a recent period back home, he made the decision to step down after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently sitting sixth in the standings. Initially, Tomkins took on the role as an interim coach after Steve McNamara's departure but was later appointed as the permanent head coach, a position he held at the club where he spent the latter part of his playing career. Tomkins expressed his appreciation for the experiences and friendships gained during his tenure, stating, 'My time at Catalans Dragons over the past 18 months has been filled with numerous highs and challenges, all of which I've valued as a rookie head coach.' He acknowledged the difficulties of living away from his family for an extended period and expressed gratitude towards the players, staff, and supporters. Tomkins will be replaced by Ryan Sheridan, who will serve as the interim head coach alongside assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, starting with their next game against the Warrington Wolves on April 18.
