I Am Maximus Regains Grand National Title

In a historic moment, I Am Maximus became the first horse to reclaim the Grand National title since the iconic Red Rum, winning the 2026 Randox Grand National. The race was filled with drama from the start, with Grangeclare West and Panic Attack experiencing early setbacks. I Am Maximus, under the skilled guidance of Paul Townend, navigated the challenging course with precision, ultimately crossing the finish line first. This victory marked a record fourth win in the Grand National for owner JP McManus, with his other horse, Iroko, finishing second - a unique achievement for one owner to have the first two places. Jordans secured third place, followed by Johnnywho in fourth. Trainer Willie Mullins, now a four-time National-winning handler, praised the strategic decision to keep I Am Maximus in the race, saying, "It was a good call from JP... Paul just executed it so well." Mullins also commended the horse, stating, "He's a superb horse who got a fantastic ride... He's just a superstar - nothing fazes him." The victory was celebrated by all, with jockey Paul Townend noting, "He's tough, isn't he? He'll gallop to the end of the world for you." In another notable performance, Home By The Lee dominated the Jet2 Liverpool Hurdle, following up his success at the Cheltenham Festival with a commanding seven-length win under J J Slevin. Trainer Joseph O'Brien reflected on the veteran horse's achievements, saying, "He's been a star for a number of years... We've obviously been learning about him as well."
